《唐韻》敕里切《集韻》丑里切，
褫上聲《說文》辱也。从心耳聲。《周禮·地官·司救》恥諸嘉石。《註》恥辱之也。《左傳·昭五年》恥匹夫不可以無備，况國乎。《註》言不可辱也。
又《廣韻》慙也。《孟子》人不可以無恥。《註》人不可以無所羞恥也。或作誀。《六書總要》从心耳會意。取聞過自愧之義。凡人心慙，則耳熱面赤，是其驗也。俗譌作耻。
